Bad breath or halitosis is the third most common issue that a person looks for dentist after tooth decay and gum disease. According to ADA (American Dental Association) 50% of adults are having bad breath at some point of their life. Sometimes you may not even know that you are having bad breath which affects interpersonal relationships, a persons quality of life and causes embarassment.

 

What causes bad breath:

  • Inadequate oral hygiene maintenance
  • Food particles getting stuck between teeth
  • Gum disease, cavities
  • Dry mouth
  • Crash diet
  • Tobacco use
  • Ill fitting loose removable dentures
  • Medical conditions : tonsillitis, gastric reflex

  • Following proper tooth brushing method
  • Tongue cleaning
  • Flossing
  • Taking adequate amount of water daily
  • Avoiding sugary foods
  • Quitting smoking
  • Regular dental checkups
